The result
Migration of approximately 1,200 mobile devices in just three months. Employees experienced little to no disruption to their workflows.
Challenges at Krombacher
Around 1,200 mobile devices are in use at the Krombacher brewery. These are used in a variety of ways in the daily work of approximately 1,000 employees.
In 2023, the Krombacher IT team, together with its IT service provider Bechtle Dortmund, decided to switch the iOS and Android devices from the SOPHOS Mobile Control UEM solution to Microsoft Intune.
The device migration was to be as efficient and smooth as possible, with minimal manual effort. For this step, Bechtle Dortmund recommended the EBF Onboarder and the expertise of EBF. After all, EBF’s UEM migration solution simplifies device migration and user communication, creates transparent reporting options, and significantly reduces the workload for IT administrators during the changeover.
Our approach at Krombacher
In order to prepare for the UEM changeover in the best possible way, the EBF experts first analyzed the requirements of the Krombacher Brewery and checked them for feasibility. The migration was then planned in several phases. To this end, the employees were divided into different groups, which were to initiate the migration on their devices one after the other.
The EBF team set up a test instance of the EBF Onboarder (proof of concept) in the IT environment of the Krombacher Brewery. This allowed several test migrations to be carried out and potential sources of error to be identified. For example, there were initially difficulties with the device settings regarding certificates and firewalls. The EBF experts were able to quickly resolve these issues. After the successful test phase, the test version of the EBF Onboarder could be transferred directly to a production environment, so that nothing stood in the way of a quick migration. Beforehand, the EBF experts optimally prepared the source system SOPHOS Mobile Controll and the target system Microsoft Intune for the change according to their best practices, so that the transition from the old to the new system could begin smoothly.
During the active migration, the EBF team provided constant support to the Krombacher IT team. Regular meetings were held to discuss the status quo, the next steps, and current challenges. In addition, the Krombacher team’s second-level support had a dedicated EBF contact person available at all times to provide quick assistance with any queries.
The result
This meant that the migration could be completed quickly and successfully within three months. By migrating in waves, the migration project had little to no impact on employees’ workflows. The IT team was significantly relieved during the migration period thanks to the use of the EBF Onboarder and EBF’s expertise, and was able to focus on other IT tasks.
