Challenge
Due to a company acquisition, two different UEM systems were in use. Migration to Workspace ONE was intended to reduce the IT effort caused by parallel operation and make the process as simple as possible.
Our contribution
Using EBF Onboarder, we were able to perform an automated migration of a small number of devices in a cost-effective manner and, thanks to Workspace ONE expertise, set up the console in accordance with requirements.
The result
The migration was completed remotely in just one week, and the new UEM system was successfully implemented without any problems for users or IT. This provided the best possible support for the company acquisition, which required a great deal of effort on the IT side.
Challenges at Woodward
At Woodward, everything revolves around energy efficiency. The company’s innovative solutions set global standards and ensure optimal use of energy sources. Mobile devices are crucial for ensuring efficiency in internal processes. They enable executives and project managers in particular to access project plans, orders, and other important documents from anywhere, receive and send emails, and carry out many other work processes on the go.
To ensure that this is done securely, efficiently, and in a user-friendly manner, it makes sense to manage the devices centrally using a unified endpoint management solution. This solution provides access to company data and encrypts it, offers the option of making a dedicated app catalog available, and allows all data to be deleted from the device if it is lost. Woodward therefore decided to manage the company’s mobile devices using the VMware Workspace ONE (formerly AirWatch) UEM system and has been using the solution for device management ever since.
In 2018, Woodward acquired L’Orange, which used the MobileIron UEM system for device management. Operating both systems in parallel would have been very costly for IT. Woodward therefore decided to place L’Orange’s mobile devices under Workspace ONE management as well and to carry out a migration. However, this posed a challenge for Woodward: manually migrating around 100 devices would have been very labor-intensive, carried a high risk of errors, and cost a lot of time, money, and resources.
Woodward was therefore looking for a solution that would enable automated migration and would also be worthwhile for this relatively small number of devices. The company was also looking for a partner with expertise in VMware Workspaces ONE who could take care of setting up the console.

Our approach at Woodward
EBF offers exactly the right solution for Woodward with the EBF Onboarder. The EBF Onboarder enables a largely automated and therefore quick and easy change of a UEM system and is suitable for 100 or more devices. Over 800,000 devices have already been successfully migrated with it for other customers – including both small and large projects. In addition, EBF has in-depth knowledge of VMware Workspace ONE and is therefore familiar with Woodward’s desired target system.
The EBF team initially supported Woodward in setting up the VMware Workspace ONE console. The experts ensured that the system precisely met the customer’s requirements and that the devices were managed in accordance with its IT security guidelines.
After configuring the target system, the EBF team conducted a test with selected devices to ensure that the rollout would be successful. After the test was successful, all 100 devices were then prompted to migrate. Thanks to the intuitive interface of the EBF Onboarder and easy-to-understand instructions, end users were able to make the switch quickly and easily without having to go without their devices for long periods of time and without needing IT support. The migration effort was therefore very low for IT, and the EBF Onboarder backend provided a constant overview of the migration status. IT colleagues were able to send targeted reminders to users who had not yet migrated.
The result
The switch to Workspace ONE was completed in just one week, and the new UEM system was successfully put into use. This provided the best possible support for the company acquisition, which always poses major challenges for IT.
