Challenge
The approximately 300 tablets and smartphones at UBB were to be managed and secured using Microsoft Endpoint Manager, which is to be operated independently by the internal IT team in the long term.
Our solution
We set up a Microsoft tenant and introduced Endpoint Manager and Identity & Access Management configurations in line with best practices, guiding the UBB IT team through every step of the process and providing them with intensive training.
The result
UBB’s IT is optimally positioned for the future and can manage the environment centrally and independently. Employees use the devices in a secure, modern, and convenient manner.
Challenges at Usedomer Bäderbahn
Mobile devices play an important role in the everyday work of UBB employees. They can use apps on their tablets and smartphones to perform various tasks, such as scanning tickets, maintaining logbooks, reporting damage, and viewing work and vacation schedules.
While the tablets were already being managed using an MDM module, the company’s smartphones were not yet under central management – resulting in high administrative costs for managing mobile devices and security risks.
The UBB IT team wanted to change this in 2021 and manage and secure all end devices with a centralized solution, while automating more processes.
They were looking for a competent partner to integrate the Microsoft Endpoint Manager solution into the company’s IT infrastructure and roll out additional M365 services to relieve the IT department and ensure a high level of user comfort for employees. After all, UBB wants to offer its workforce a modern workplace.

Our approach for Usedomer Bäderbahn
In the first step, the experts at EBF conducted an opportunity assessment. This involved a detailed analysis of the status quo of the IT infrastructure and the requirements of the UBB IT department, and the necessary steps were then derived.
First, an M365 tenant was set up for UBB. EBF experts configured this according to best practices. This paved the way for the introduction of the management solution and other M365 services.
This enabled Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) to be implemented in the next step in accordance with UBB’s requirements within its corporate structures. Tablets were placed under its management alongside smartphones, meaning that both device types can now be managed equally.
In addition, an Azure Active Directory connection was implemented. By switching from Active Directory in the former on-premises operation to Azure Active Directory in the cloud, the UBB team was able to introduce secure and user-friendly forms of authentication for employees. This makes it easier for bus and train drivers to log in to their devices and use them securely and without interruptions due to repeated logins.
The EBF team also migrated UBB’s old MDaemon email system to Microsoft Exchange Online in the cloud, allowing employees to work with Outlook regardless of the device they are using.
During these processes, the EBF experts worked very closely with the UBB team. This was because the IT managers at UBB wanted to understand the process steps in detail and be able to operate the solutions independently in everyday use later on. The integration into the IT infrastructure and interface systems also had to be precisely documented.
The EBF team therefore carried out each step side by side with the UBB team. This allowed valuable know-how to be passed on to the IT team, and EBF was a reliable partner to UBB throughout the entire process.
The result
The UBB IT team uses Microsoft Endpoint Manager to smoothly manage around 300 mobile devices from a central location. Thanks to intensive training and support from the EBF team, IT staff are able to operate and further develop the solutions independently. There are plans to add Windows laptops to the management system in the future.
As a result of this and the introduction of additional M365 services, UBB employees can work securely and smoothly with mobile devices in their everyday work. As a modern transport company, UBB is taking advantage of the benefits of a digital workplace.
