Challenge
The pandemic suddenly made face-to-face meetings impossible and deprived the project of an important working basis.
Our contribution
In a unique collaboration between the project team, T-Mobile US, and EBF Inc., 600 iPads and a virtual collaboration space were made available in a short period of time.
The result
The project team was able to continue its important work digitally and hold meetings online from then on.
Challenges at Para Los Niños
The mission of Best Start Region 1 is to shape communities in such a way that they enable their children and families to lead healthy and happy lives and have a hopeful future. The initiative brings together citizens, local organizations, city and county administrations, elected representatives, and companies who want to work together to create fair conditions for all. The supporting organization behind the Best Start Region 1 initiative is Para Los Niños. Regular face-to-face meetings between members have always been an essential part of Best Start Region 1’s work. These meetings provide a forum for citizens to discuss problems and develop solutions. But then COVID-19 struck. The pandemic suddenly made all these face-to-face meetings impossible, depriving the project of an important basis for its work. At the beginning of 2020, due to historical barriers, there were neither affordable nor available high-performance broadband connections nor digital devices in the community. And there were also no collaboration solutions or experience with digital formats to continue the work in a different form.

Our contribution
In a unique collaboration between the Best Start Region 1 Para Los Niños project team and Child360, T-Mobile US, and EBF Inc., this technological gap was largely overcome. The dedicated teams quickly provided 600 iPads and a virtual space for collaboration, and the Best Start Region 1 team offered regular hands-on courses to discuss issues and further increase members’ digital literacy.

Our approach at Para Los Niños
The EBF team provided all project participants with the necessary expertise and encouraged a high level of commitment among them.
First, it was important to identify the team’s requirements and challenges in dialogue with various contacts, present them with options, and translate these into a technical concept.
This revealed a number of special considerations that needed to be taken into account: For example, Para Los Niños did not have an active Apple ID, which is important for purchasing and automatically distributing apps.
EBF advised the team on possible options and made it possible for users to ultimately choose whether they want to use their own ID or a generic Apple Managed ID from Para Los Niños, which can also be used for other community purposes.
Once the requirements had been clarified, the devices were set up by the EBF team using Jamf Pro and Apple School Manager and configured so that they could be put into operation with just a few simple clicks.
Apps such as Zoom for meetings, Google Translate to overcome language barriers, Google Drive for file sharing, and web links to relevant project pages were provided directly on the device.
The result
After the project launch in early April 2021, the first Best Start Region 1 online town hall meeting was held on April 24. From then on, the team was able to continue its important efforts to bring about systemic change digitally, helping communities and their children and families achieve a healthier, happier, and more hopeful future.
