Women in IT
For International Women's Day, our colleague Petra asked her female colleagues why they enjoy working in the IT industry, and also asked our male colleagues what they would miss without women. The result: mutual appreciation in both directions. And for EBF as an employer, let's enjoy.
“The IT industry is incredibly exciting because it is constantly changing and full of innovation. We women make a valuable contribution and drive many issues forward—with passion, structure, and a comprehensive perspective. That’s why IT needs more women—and this should be promoted in schools. With our second Girls’ Day, we are giving girls the opportunity to discover this exciting world—a project that is truly close to my heart.”
“I think it’s great that more and more women are entering the IT field. With our social skills, we bring a breath of fresh air! Women should lose their fear of IT because they are well received here and can grow into the topics. I have also developed internally and grown as a result.”
“For me, working in the IT industry means modern equipment and the latest tools. In recent years, we have digitized our entire invoicing process, which has reduced the workload for our finance team and made us more efficient. Yes, I love numbers—but I also love my finance colleagues. I believe that as a woman and a mother, I bring valuable leadership qualities to the table that help my team move forward. And because we are able to work in such a digitalized way, we can also work from home, which is something I really appreciate about the IT industry and EBF.”
Our male colleagues also had their say. It was nice to hear why they value women in the IT industry and at EBF.
“For me, projects with mixed teams are like a breath of fresh air (i.e., thoroughly positive!) compared to my “normal” work, which tends to focus more on collaboration with men. It’s more productive because it simply brings in different, new perspectives, such as different ways of thinking and approaches to solving problems. I also find the communication and working atmosphere to be better. More interpersonal relationships are built, which leads to more open and empathetic communication. I couldn’t imagine working for an employer with few or no women! I wouldn’t feel comfortable. That’s why I’m very happy at EBF that we promote women (many female managers) and there is no “men against women” mentality at any level – quite the opposite!”
“You women bring a different perspective, and that helps us to rethink our own. It lightens the mood, and I find that valuable.”
“I can’t imagine there only being guys here. That would be boring. In our planning team for team events, I really appreciate the women because you are simply more creative—without you, the events wouldn’t be as cool. I would also like to bring women into my cloud team, but unfortunately, hardly any apply. I would be delighted if more women joined IT, it would break things up a bit—in a positive way.”
“Despite the IT world being (still) male-dominated, we have many women in management positions—and they are very committed to their employees and EBF. I think this makes the corporate culture very balanced. And you can be seen as role models for future trainees and young female employees. Without our female colleagues, the dynamic and atmosphere at EBF would be lost – and work would become monotonous and boring.”
At EBF, team spirit and communication with colleagues are an important part of the corporate culture.
“I feel very comfortable in the IT environment and at EBF in particular. As a lawyer, I appreciate a relaxed and collaborative environment. It’s nice to see more and more women entering the legal profession and also IT—it’s enriching for everyone. Otherwise, I like the dynamics of the industry because there’s a lot going on here and you’re always developing—also on a legal level.”
Working at EBF
Our colleague Petra has been with EBF for almost a year now—she feels very comfortable among her colleagues, and the many conversations she had with them around International Women’s Day reaffirmed her decision to join the IT world and EBF. It was nice to hear specifically that gender is not a negative issue at EBF and that women belong just as much as men.
