Challenge
The Krombacher Brauerei team and their IT service provider Bechtle were seeking an efficient, affordable path to migrate their devices to the Microsoft Intune UEM solution.

Challenge
There are around 1,200 devices in use at Krombacher Brauerei. The German brewery’s approximately 1,000 employees use these devices for a wide range of everyday tasks.
In 2023 the Krombacher IT team made a joint decision with its IT service provider Bechtle Dortmund to migrate the iOS and Android devices from the SOPHOS Mobile Control UEM solution to Microsoft Intune.
They wanted the device migration to go as smoothly and efficiently as possible with minimum manual effort. Bechtle Dortmund recommended the EBF Onboarder along with the EBF team’s expertise for this step. After all, EBF’s UEM migration solution simplifies device migration and user communication, offers transparent reporting options, and relieves the burden on IT admins considerably during the transition process.

Preparing for migration
To prepare the UEM migration as effectively as possible, the experts at EBF first reviewed Krombacher Brauerei’s requirements and determined whether they were feasible. Then they planned a multi-phase migration, dividing employees into different groups, which would then successively launch the migration via their devices.
The EBF team built a test version of the EBF Onboarder (proof-of-concept) in Krombacher Brauerei’s IT landscape. For instance, there was a problem at first with the device settings for certificates and firewalls. The EBF experts were able to quickly resolve the issue. Following the successful test phase, they directly transferred the EBF Onboarder’s test tenant to a productive environment, paving the way for a rapid migration. The EBF experts optimally prepared the SOPHOS Mobile Control source system and the Microsoft Intune target system for the transition using their best-practice approach to ensure a smooth start to the migration from the old system to the new one.
UEM migration with EBF Onboarder
The EBF team was available to lend a hand to the Krombacher IT team throughout the active migration. They discussed the status quo, next steps, and current challenges during regularly scheduled jour fixe meetings. The Krombacher team’s second level support also had constant access to a fixed contact at EBF, who provided a rapid response to any questions that arose. We were able to successfully reduce our migration timeline to the absolute minimum thanks to the EBF Onboarder tool and the profound mobility expertise offered by EBF and Bechtle. EBF provided highly competent and fast support.
Result
These efforts enabled Krombacher to complete the migration quickly – within just three months. Staging the migration process in phases meant that employees could go about their daily work with little to no interruptions. The EBF Onboarder and the expertise provided by EBF significantly eased the IT team’s workload during the migration, thus enabling them to focus on other IT tasks.
